- Aspiring Timber Frame Carpenter
Aspiring carpenter embarking on a career change. I am about to complete (05.12.22 - 09.12.22) a foundation carpentry course with the Builder Training Centre; https://thebtc.co.uk/brochure/foundation-carpentry-courses/. I know this is not an extensive carpentry course and is not timber frame focused but I am keen to learn and to know what additional training and experience timber frame employers would look for me to attend in order to further advanced my employment opportunities.

- Researching the knowledge of the medieval master carpenter in setting out roofs and buildings
My research into the knowledge of the medieval carpenter in setting out roofs and buildings without using geometry or numeric measurement came about while studying vernacular buildings in Kent and Sussex. I was interested in the different roof layouts from crown posts to clasp-purlin queen post roofs from the 13th to the 18th century. I realised that roof pitches had constant angles of 43, 48, 52, 55 and 58 degrees. I then checked vernacular roofs in the Midland England cruck and box-frame country and in East Anglia and found the same constant roof pitches. Then I took my research futher...
- Richard Andersen – Norwegian Wood
My name is Richard and I commute between Norway and the UK in my sailboat Cecilia, spending winters in the cold north and summers on the green and pleasant land. I work with, and teach, traditional Norwegian log building and trestle frame 'grindbygg' construction. Log building is exceptionally strong and stable, has amazing thermal storage capacity and is designed for long hard winters. It also looks incredibly beautiful.
